Backward Thinking.

You are gone
So I need to stop pretending that
You are still here with me
This can sound a bit strange, but I believe
“I am proud of you.”
Is not what you are saying, more like
“I don’t approve of this life you are living.”
Your voice rings inside my head and
If I listen closely, I can hear you telling me what to do
Somewhere down the line
I might be able to do this on my own
I need to accept that
But
I am scared
So it’s hard for me to say that
I am a man
